KKR restricted by RCB bowlers ? Cricket News Roundup ? April 11, 2013

A strong death over bowling display from Royal Challengers Bangalore restricted defending Indian Premier League Champions Kolkata Knight Riders to 154 for 8 in 12th match of the ongoing sixth edition, currently being played at Bangalore.

After being asked to bat first, KKR lost opener Manvinder Bisla early on but managed to score at a steady rate courtesy skipper Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan, with the former going on to score 59.

However, Gambhir?s wicket in the 17th over put the brakes on the scoring rate, with the team adding just 24 in the last 3 overs. RP Singh was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, ending with 3 for 27.

Pakistan?s chief selector, Iqbal Qasim, has said the national team is in a period of transition and it will take time before the Men In Green become a force to be reckoned with.

His comments came after the team?s disappointing tour of South Africa, where they were whitewashed by a 3-0 margin in the Test format, and further lost the 50-over series 2-1. The only consolation came in the shortest format, which they won 1-0.

The team generally played well below the expectation, with only Muhammad Irfan, the 7ft tall pacer, standing out. It further forced the selectors to omit veteran batsman, Younis Khan, from the preliminary 30-man list for the upcoming Champions Trophy in England.

"Realistically, we do not have a quality pool of reserve players," Qasim said in an exclusive interview with ESPNcricinfo. "Most of the spots within the playing XI are not fixed and players are not doing enough to retain their place.?

Chennai Super Kings got their first win of the Indian Premier League as they thrashed Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets in the last night?s fixture, played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.

Sent into bat, the home side lost early wickets but recovered, courtesy solid contributions from David Hussey ( 41) and Gurkeerat Singh ( 31). However, both fell in quick succession before the lower order tumbled under pressure to record a paltry 138 on the board.

In reply, the Super Kings completed victory in 17.2 overs without losing any wicket. Michael Hussey was the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 86 off 54, which included 11 fours and two sixes. His partner, Murali Vijay, made 50.?
