And my true talent is&#8230 - President's Blog / Blogue du recteur ...

As the year winds down, and final paper deadlines get closer and closer, I am starting to realize what I am truly very good at: making excuses.

I have actually just got an excuse for everything. Why don?t I hang my clothes up at night? I might wear it later this week. I?m moving in 3 months anyway. What if there is a spider in my closet?

Why don?t I start my papers right now while I have some ?extra? time? I am taking a ?short break? now that I have nothing due this week. I need to get caught up on the fashion industry for my career. The internet is slow today, so I?ll just wait a day to start my research.

Why should I eat ice cream at midnight? If I don?t have some sugar every day, I could die. Ice cream is comforting and will therefore help me relax before bed. Ice cream has milk in it and therefore, it must be healthy!

I wore a dress and did not freeze!

In all seriousness though, I think taking breaks is super important whenever you have the chance during end-of-the-year craziness. Eating ice cream is important, too. I took Ryen?s advice, and went to see the Thorneloe production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. I also really enjoyed it! It was very well done; the acting was very good, as Ryen mentioned. The stage really brought the audience into the performance, in my very unprofessional opinion. Has anyone else had the chance to see it? What did you think?

I?d love to tell you that I have been leading an exciting life of parties with celebrities, but my publicist advised me not to. I can say that I wore a spring trench coat TWICE this week! And I even wore a dress to school today! If that isn?t exciting news to you, then you obviously were not born in Sudbury. Or you have gone out more often in the past week than I have.

The other really cool thing from my week is this amazing certificate I received. Last summer, I took a Communications course, which led me to the opportunity to write a volunteer piece for the United Way. They so wonderfully gave all of the volunteer writers a framed certificate! The article was also published in the Northern Life, which is fantastic. It was such a great opportunity, and I was pleasantly surprised to realize how appreciative the United Way was, to recognize the writers in this way.

Speaking of writing, I just want to let you all know that the English Arts Society is still accepting submissions for Sulphur Volume IV! Sulphur is LU?s first literary journal; I co-edit the journal with the other 4 EAS members. We accept any creative writing, including poetry, creative non-fiction, short stories, drama? send it our way to be considered for publishing! You can send it to eas@laurentian.ca and tell all your friends! The submissions don?t need to come from LU students!

What has been wonderful about your week? I would love to know! I hope you?re all doing well and still smiling even during March Madness, as it is called.

Until next time!
